1up Classic Gamer Quilt

One of my favorite things to do as a small child was to curl up on our delightfully 80s couch and watch my older brothers play Super Mario Brothers on the old gray NES system :) When I drew my hard-to-buy-for older brother's name for Christmas I thought I'd give a nod to the old days and make this quilt which I had seen some time back on craftgawker.com and craftster and the such. And here is the finished product:

Soooooooooo, this was one of my infamous Christmas projects. One that, in fact, I didn't quite finish till February. And also, I didn't finish it alone. This bad boy was the result of much appreciated sewing help from my darling husband as well as my mom. It did, however, turn out AWESOME!!! Even though I don't feel like painstakingly cutting and pinning and graphing and thinking again for awhile, I can't help but think we need one of these at our house too :)
I googled around f0r help/ideas and ended up making my own graph I'll share here :Mushroom Quilt Chartif anyone wants to use it. I used 4 inch squares and it turned out HUGE, think almost queen size. I overshot on my fabric (although I thought I did the math like a million times). I bought 5 yards white, 3 yards black, & 6 fat quarters green (just because they didn't have a print I liked on the bolts).

My husband and I are pretty sure we mixed up the green and white on the mushroom head, I think it's technically supposed to be green with white dots and we did it the other way around. . . . but if you wanna get really technical and nerd it up (i say as I push my glasses up with one finger), the original was like a pukey orange with green dots, like this:

Whilst searching, I found a treasure trove of fabulous Nintendo themed crafts! The pixelated quality lends itself PERFECTLY to knit, crochet, & quilting charts! I even found a woman who took on knitting the entire FIRST LEVEL of Super Mario Brothers into a scarf!!! How cool!! Also, check out this girl's etsy shop for some uber fabulous scarfs!! I kinda want to delve into another gamey craft, I'm thinking something pacman-ish :)
Anyways, must go, my little one fell asleep in her jump jump *insert "isn't that adorable" sigh here* and I must go disturb her cuteness to find her a more comfortable napping position!
