Owl Coat Rack Revamps

Are you one of those people that thinks it would be a great idea to take before and after pictures only once it's too late and you're already well on your way to the after? I am. Boo. I so wish I could show you how UNfabulous these treasures were in their before-esque state, I think it would highly influence your opinion of how amazing they are now! or maybe it's just me. Either way, I'll try and explain to you: they were a dark blackish brown with a deep blue sorta wash over them. The owls were just that standard brown rod iron rusty color. They sort of had a gloomy feel to them. Not cute and happy and deserving of my bubbly little girls I was intending them for.

Anyways, I knew they had the potential to be amazing and they were on Hobby Lobby's famous 40% Off sale, sooooooooooooo needless to say, the option to get 2 for just over the price of 1 totally swayed me :)

I spray primed them and then painted each little slat a different color. At this point, I wasn't feeling them,so I decided to swipe away all my imperfect painting, or rather highlight it, with a sanding block. This is where that ugly darkish blueish black was kinda fabulous: showing through on the newly warn edges! Making the decision to "antique" or "weather" or "distress" something is often a happy surprise as it covers a multitude of errors!

I sprayed the heavy metal owls with a glossy white paint and then coated everything in a clear glossy topcoat. I like gloss.

I'm very excited about the outcome and might be currently a little too spray paint happy . . . what can I makeover next?!!
