Projects to Movie By: Circle Vest

My love for quick simple projects has brought me to several cutie-pie pieces that can be whipped up while just watching 1 or 2 fabulous movies and maybe while sipping one incredible drink (my love, the Pumpkin Spice Latte). I decided to feature these cute pieces along side mini movie recommendations in a series called Projects to Movie By.

I'm positive you can find a pattern for this or something similar almost anywhere. I have a little bit of ADD when it comes to pattern reading, so I just improvised. I simply crocheted a circle large enough to reach from armpit to armpit across my "model"'s back and then continued to crochet the circle leaving two armholes in the appropriate spots. What a quick and fun project! I foresee millions of these popping up in my future!

This movie is totally charming. For me, the combination of Audrey Hepburn (who I adore), and Fred Astaire (who I can't help but "crush" on), and Paris (swoon) is a sure recipe for fabulousness and this movie does not disappoint. My favorites: the bookstore kiss (total butterflies), how they pretend to be too tired to sightsee in Paris, and the wedding dress for the photoshoot (it's the kind of dress that makes me want a wedding do-over just so I could wear something like it!).

Pretty sure this movie sells for something like $7 at Walmart, you should totally check it out sometime! My girls even loved it! Y was totally into the opening music sequence "Think Pink" and here's A's apparent enchantment with a Fred Astaire dance scene:

All in all my project took about the time of the movie, give or take a little bit!

Oh hey, I finally finished something :)

Well, third time was the charm with this fabulously romantic crochet shrug. I started this project in a really awesome muddy cotton about a month ago, and ran out before I got to the sleeves. Then I gave it a whirl with a too-thick Vanna White acrylic yarn and gave up midway through because I HATED the thick and scratchiness of it. Then I got seriously sidetracked with those INCREDIBLY rewarding-to-make crochet cradle purses (I've made 3 and counting). But then, I committed full-heartedly and with a ready supply of Lionbrand Microspun yarn and here is the result! The design is really fun to do and surprisingly quick, in fact, if it weren't for little Y-dizzle, I think one might be able to whip these out in a day or two, just need a stack of good movies (I worked on mine in the wee hours of the night while watching the latest season of Big Love on On Demand, nothing like a drama to keep those stitches coming :P haha). Anyways, I was stoked about this, especially after seeing what it looked like on my brother's adorable girlfriend (my super good sport of a model!) I had to make the tiniest version because I wanted it to go quickly . . . after seeing the result, however, I am inspired to make a larger version for myself. I'm thinking of just making it in white and dying it . . . ooooooo, maybe even dip-dye. Carly knows I loves me some dip dyes :)

Anyways, the sweater is up for sale in the SHOP along with some other "new" items I never got around to posting.

Cradle Purse 1st attmept

So, a few days ago I was talking with my mom and she told me about these little purses a church lady made for her and her sister (and all the little girls) that turned into baby cradles when you inverted them. I was intruiged and began my internet search. It took me awhile to figure out what I should even be searching for. "Cradle Purse" was the magic phrase and I found TONS of patterns online. My delima now is which one to use. So I just dove in, here's my first try. The hood is a little small, but I'm already working on another pattern. My tendancy to want to just wing it is really gnawing at me, but I'm committed to trying these two patterns before I borrow my favorite parts from each to develop one SUPER PATTERN ;) Anyways, so fun to make! Think once I get one down, I'll be making a million!!!!
