Midnight Mothers Day Zipper Pouches

Here's a lovely self portrait with me at 3:23 am on Mother's Day after an impromptu sewing adventure that tragically could not begin until SNL was over, Justin Timberlake was hosting and for reasons different than most other girlies out there, I love him! But I digress . . .

Lying in bed watching this hilarious sketch, I kept thinking about this Black Apple post and even though I could not discover her secret formula for the zipper pouch I found a couple of tutorials and I needed something quick and cute to accompany two mothers day cards for my sister-in-laws. So I bounced out of bed, grabbed some cute fat quarters and zippers I had lying in my disaster of a craft room and voila, here they are:





I can't tell you how fun these were to sew! I only messed up slightly with the lavender bag, the lining fabric was supposed to be the outside and the purply polka dots on the inside, but luckily I had these adorable deer patches to make it seem less bland. Either way, I'm kinda stoked to make about a zillion more of these!

An Easter Dress for Miss Y

Here is one of the dresses I made for Y using the Alexander Henry "April Showers" and "May Flowers" fabric I bought of etsy last week :) This is a pillowcase dress and I used this tutorial loosely: Pillow Case Dress. It's insanely easy and looks so adorable! If I can sew this, anyone can! I only used my husband (the professional ;) haha) to thread the machine, but I did all the sewing myself and it really looks great! I didn't follow the tutorial's dimensions very closely I just used a big rectangle of fabric and cut armholes :) You kinda can't mess it up (just my kind of pattern!!!).

Anyways, Y looked beautiful in it and had a fabulous Easter even though she was the only little one around :) All that running looking for eggs wiped her out, too. Giving us some organize garage and mow the front lawn (in the rain) time . . . which was MUCH needed! All and all a nice little Sunday ;) Hope yours was just as great!!!!

My new love affair with Michael Miller and Alexander Henry

It's official, I'm in love with two men that are not my husband . . . or at least their fabric designs. I'd been drawn to Alexander Henry before. His bold colors and unusual designs (i.e., pagodas, kittens, jewel-toned wild grasses) had peeked my interest whenever I stumbled across them. But, ladies and gentlemen, I have recently fallen HEAD OVER HEELS in love with both his and Michael Miller's holiday fabrics! They are the utmost epitomy of christma-fabulous and I foresee some horribly tragic overspending in my very, very near future. I've been yearning to fling myself into some serious Holiday crafting for a possible craft bizzare in early December, but find myself presently swimming in a sea of precious new baberlets and baberlets-to-be, which has, in turn, filled all my "Y is sleeping so it's time to craft" time into baby afghan making time. But these fabrics have given me an extra surge of crocheting-stamina to finish these lovely baby blankies and make some truly truly glam-fabulous-holiday-extravaganza Christmas Crafts! Take a peek, but beware, they'll make a sewer out of you! (and I don't even like to sew!!!)

Winter Pillows

While I enjoy Halloween and Fall immensly, I find myself just anxious to get over the "hump" of Friday so I can fling myself into full-fledged winter holiday mode. I'm just ready to super-Christmas-ify my life :) I know that is nausiating to many people (my husband included). But I just love it! Especially when it comes to crafting. The project of the weekend should have been Halloween centerpieces/decorations for a party, but my mind jumped ahead and I can't say I'm sorry. Cute critters, warm winter accessories, and snippets from winter-y songs have all melted together in my creative consciousness and the outcome is really fun and fabulous so far :) My inspiration is all about winter right now: bunnies in red boots, snowflakes with giant glasses, a gorgeous Tiffany box blue flannel fabric I found in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart! I'm trying to focus all these fun ideas into a cohesive "collection" of winter-y throw pillows, but I can't promise they won't spill over and accidentally turn into some Holiday Cards, tote bags, or even jewelry and such . . .
